Summary
For more than a century, Manasquan River Golf Club has been defined by its golf and its setting along the river. Over roughly 18 months, our team worked with the Master Planning Committee, Board of Trustees, and club leadership to evaluate renovation, expansion, and deferred-maintenance options. The result was a clear recommendation: replace the existing clubhouse with a new facility on the same site. The committee endorsed the plan unanimously, the Board adopted it, and the membership supported the $42.1 million project.
The new clubhouse is designed around the way a golf-centric club actually lives, prioritizing everyday member use over event business. Shingle-style architecture, stone chimneys, and double-tiered porches root the building in its coastal New Jersey setting, while three levels organize the member experience. The main level centers on the Riverview Grill, Tavern, and Great Room, opening onto the Riverview Porch and a firepit patio. The terrace level adds a main dining room, a mixed grill, and an open-air Riverview Terrace bar overlooking the water. On the fairway level, expanded men’s and women’s locker rooms and lounges open onto porches facing the first fairway.
Operational efficiency shaped the plan as much as aesthetics did. A centrally located main kitchen connects directly to a second kitchen, serving every dining area with shorter runs and more consistent service. Overall dining capacity grows only modestly; the real gain is in how the spaces function, with more casual dining, stronger indoor-outdoor connections, and significantly more outdoor seating.
Member input guided every stage, from focus groups and town halls to the final member presentation. A detailed funding analysis and a phased logistics plan support the design, keeping the golf course open throughout construction with temporary dining, locker room, and golf shop facilities.
The result is a clubhouse that honors more than 100 years of Manasquan River tradition while giving members spaces built for how they use the club today and for generations to come.
