In 2014 as the New Jersey private club landscape was changing, Glen Ridge Country Club recognized the need to keep the niche they had successfully carved for themselves over the years. Leadership realized that in order to accomplish this they needed more than a renovation but rather a “re-imagination” of their club.
With a goal of maintaining the architectural significance of their main clubhouse building, they began a systematic planning process that would prove to contribute significantly to the project’s eventual success. Close interaction with the local historic commission helped to recreate a building that is aesthetically pleasing, historically accurate and operationally efficient.
The club re-opened in several phases over an 18-month period. A new stand-alone pro shop and tennis facility were the first to be completed. The lower level of the clubhouse was next featuring a new member bar and dining destination with a semi-open display kitchen connected directly to a patio with a fire pit and dramatic views of the New York City skyline. The final phase encompassed the main clubhouse level and included a grand entry foyer complete with a grand piano, a stunning bar, private wine room and a new ballroom all of which enjoy spectacular views of the City.
Member reaction was immediate and amazing with dramatic increases in both food and beverage revenues, dues, and initiation fees as new members flocked to the reimagined Glen Ridge Country Club.
