Summary
JBD, in collaboration with the Board, undertook a significant reimagining of the clubhouse, transforming its Shingle Style character into a refined classic aesthetic that unifies the original farmhouse with its many additions over the years. The result is a cohesive and timeless clubhouse experience that honors the property’s history while responding to the needs of today’s members.
At the heart of the transformation, the Donald Ross Grill was expanded and opened to the second floor, creating a dramatic two-story member bar and dining experience. The soaring volume visually connects the Grill with the Donald Ross Mezzanine, creating a vibrant sense of energy and movement throughout the space while providing expansive views of the Manhattan skyline from the upper-level areas.
An expanded outdoor dining terrace extends the member experience beyond the clubhouse, opening directly onto the Donald Ross-designed golf course. Throughout the interiors, the design takes a classic-contemporary approach, drawing inspiration from the clean lines and understated character of both Shaker and Shingle Style architecture. A warm, sophisticated palette of rich stained millwork, painted wainscoting, wood flooring, glazed brick, textured tile, and grass-cloth wallcoverings creates an inviting atmosphere with a strong sense of permanence.
The ballrooms were refreshed in a bright, contemporary style while maintaining an elegant and welcoming character. A light, neutral palette provides a versatile backdrop capable of accommodating a wide range of events and décor.
The expansion and transformation of the dining facilities, including the dramatic two-story dining room and expanded outdoor terrace, have fundamentally enhanced the clubhouse experience, creating more dynamic spaces for members to gather, dine, and enjoy the club and its exceptional setting.
